Many of you have been through this process, and you have traversed it with great success. For those of us who are first-timers, the journey to a title is a bit more cumbersome.
How do you decide from all the ideas?
Everyone seems to have a suggestion, but do they fit? Unlikely at best.
Do you flip a coin? Heads or tail? This never worked for me.
Ask your followers online? They support and encourage you. Perhaps this is the best place to start.
I have a list of three potential titles for my memoir. Now I’m down to this short list that started with several more. The only advice I’ve sought until now has been from my husband and a couple of avid reading friends.

I had to smile when I read this post. I was told over and over again that I needed a “catchy” clever title for my book about my son’s recovery from severe OCD. So I racked my brain trying to come up with the right words. When I finally got a publisher they felt it should be as straightforward as possible and I ended up with Overcoming OCD: A Journey to Recovery. So much for my clever title, but for this book, it works. I will take your survey now, Sherrey. I hope you enjoy the process of finding the title that is right for your book!
I had to chuckle, Janet. As writers, we try to absorb every ounce of advice given, read every blog post written, tap into every social media platform, and more to get it all just right so we can publish our book. And then we find out there’s often an easier way to have done it all! Thanks for your support and encouragement.

Sherrey, I agonized over my title as you may recall–did a survey which was very helpful–but it wasn’t until I read my preface aloud –months later–to a friend in preparation for a reading at a writer’s conference that my title came to me from a passage I had written. My advice: remain open to the possibilities. It will come to you and there will be no question. Good Luck!
Oh, Kathy, how I remember! And I remember your survey. I vaguely recall your telling me about reading the preface aloud…and the title came to you from a passage you had written. I know that will likely happen here too. I think it will be somewhat like meeting Bob…I knew he was the one. Thanks for your support!
