Life in the Slow Lane

Contemplating life, faith, words, and memories

One Year, 12 Months, 52 Weeks, 365 Days — August 11, 2023

One Year, 12 Months, 52 Weeks, 365 Days

Numerically speaking, the above title comprises four ways of looking at my absence from my blog since August 11, 2022. There are many more numerical elements available, but I believe four is quite enough for now.

Today, August 11, 2023, is my first “official” day back to the blog. My previous post on August 1, 2023, was a simple “ad,” if you will, drumming up interest in what might happen today. The date I last posted was August 11, 2022.

An Apology is Needed

You may have questions about why someone would leave their blog unannounced. Plus, they stay away for a year, making no appearance.
  • Why?
  • What led up to it?
  • When will the blogger return?
  • Is he or she coming back?
  • Am I, a reader/follower, wasting my time with this blogger?

Breaking News! — August 1, 2023

Breaking News!

It was about a year ago I posted for the last time, and at the time I wasn’t planning to come back to my site. Accurate information makes for truthful news, so I’ll say my last post was on August 11, 2022.

Recently, my heart and mind spoke to one another, with help from my Spiritual Advisor above. The words I heard reflected on how I had always said I’d never stop writing. But I had!

The voices I heard suggested I try it. I agreed to do so.

Try to drop by on Friday, August 11, 2023, for my first post since the date above. After that post, I will begin posting every other Wednesday for starters and eventually get back, I hope and pray, to the weekly post on Wednesday.

Hope to see you soon,

Deadlines — September 2, 2019

Deadlines

Deadlines are a component of writing, blogging, and appointment keeping. You have to schedule a certain time for your new post to hit your readers’ inboxes or social media. A doctor’s appointment must be kept so we set a deadline by which we need to be parked and in his office. Writing often requires submissions on a set schedule that must be followed.

My Monday deadline for the blog is somewhat cast in stone in my mind. I want to have the new post ready by Sunday afternoon and scheduled to post at approximately 5:30 a.m. Pacific time on Monday. In my plan, I see my post hitting its various destinations in good timing.

Not this morning! A myriad of causes kept me from my usual plan. And I’ll not bore you with them.

Instead, I’ll wish you a happy and productive Monday!

Writer MIA 27 Days Returns to Write Again! — May 9, 2018

Writer MIA 27 Days Returns to Write Again!

Where was I the last 27 days?

Almost a month ago, I posted on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn that I was taking a breather. I needed some self-care, and I wanted to attempt a little spring cleaning. I thought ten days or less should cover it. Why I didn’t post my planned absence here I don’t know. So much for my thinking things through!

During what was to be a short time, life took over. You know how plans exert their muscle and change themselves around. That’s what happened. Family issues, health issues, things you never expected–they left no time for my plans.

But wait, you say! There have been no blog posts or newsletter for a while.

I realize you’re following here or receiving updates via my newsletter to receive posts and more information about writing. The reason for this post is to let you know what happened and what is happening in the background. I’m on my way back and want to get back to a normal schedule.

About the Blog

Right now I’m working on the following:

  • A series of posts on writing with chronic pain or illness;
  • A couple of memoir reviews for you–
    • Rose Bingham’s Buy the Little Ones a Dolly;
    • Abigail Thomas’s Thinking About Memoir; and
  • Posts on balancing family life and writing.

Blog posts will return to the previous schedule with posts on Wednesday.

About the Newsletter

After this newsletter mailing, I will not be sending out a newsletter. Personal reasons dictate a writing load I want to keep up and there is not the time for everything.

If you receive my blog posts via the newsletter and wish to continue receiving them, please go to the sidebar on the right of this page. Choose one of three options near the top of the sidebar:

  • The first option is just under the search box. If you are a WordPress user, this simple bar reads “Follow The Writing Studio.” It allows you to “follow” my blog with no more effort than a simple click. My blog posts will then show up in your WordPress Reader.
  • Option two is just below that bar and asks if you’d like to receive my posts via email. If so, simply fill out the form and click on the “Click to Follow” button and WordPress will send them to you.
  • A third option labeled “Let’s Connect” allows you to receive my blog posts on any of the social media channels listed there. Simply click the icon and it will take you where want to go.

Thanks for your understanding and continuing support as I get back in the saddle. Sometimes the writing life is a difficult one, but I can’t seem to turn my back on it. I love writing, the writing community (all of you included), and the joy found in the written word.
