Who better to look to for quotes on writing than well-known writers. A fan of quotations of any kind, I’ve collected a few on the topic of writing from some of my favorite writers:
E.L. Doctorow

William Wordsworth
Maya Angelou

Anne Lamott
C.S. Lewis

Ernest Hemingway

Louis L’amour

Anne Tyler
F. Scott Fitzgerald
Anton Chekhov

I love them all, Sherrey! True wisdom in a nutshell. Thanks for sharing!
So glad you enjoyed reading them, Kathy!
I love these. Especially the “show, don’t tell” by Chekhov. Thank you.
I couldn’t resist including the Chekhov quote. 🙂
I love writing quotes. One of my favorite quotes isn’t about writing, but it applies. “If you hear a voice inside you say, ‘you cannot paint,’ then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced. Vincent Van Gogh.
This is another great quote which applies to all creative efforts. Thanks for sharing!
Love these, Sherrey, and here’s another: “If you wait for inspiration to write, you’re not a writer. You’re a waiter.” – Dan Poynter
April, this is one I’ve not heard or read previously. I really like it. Recently, I came across another on inspiration from Michael Hyatt, which I should have included: “Inspiration doesn’t show up until you do.” Glad you enjoyed these.
Fantastic quotes Sherrey, thanks. I find the Wordsworth quote very fitting for memoir writing. 🙂
Funny, I thought the same thing when I came across the Wordsworth quote. Glad you enjoyed these, Debby.

Writing a book is a long, exhausting struggle, like a long bout of some painful illness. One would never undertake such a thing if one were not driven by some demon one can neither resist nor understand. – George Orwell
Love, love, love this quote you shared, Marian! Orwell’s words ring familiar and true. This needs to be shared far and wide. 🙂 Thank you!
Sherrey, you inspire me. Plain and simple. AND, you inspire me to arrange a collection of artful expressions such as these as wall art when I set up my new office!
Aren’t these fun and inspiring! I had not thought of creating wall art with them, but it’s a great idea especially with a new office on the horizon.
Sherrey, thanks for sharing; this comes along at a time when I can benefit from motivation to get back to my works in progress … I don’t even remember the passwords to some of my social media platforms anymore. You’ve made so much progress during my absence from our circles; it’s great to engage with you again in this shared part of our lives. Well done on getting your e-book out there.
Belinda, so glad these quotes will motivate you. Funny how quickly we can forget passwords. Do you suppose that’s a hand being held up saying, “Ouch, social media!” It still is a hard one to get your arms around but I’m trying. Thanks for mentioning how far I’ve come while you’ve been away. It’s nice that you noticed. Good to see you around. Ian was here commenting a few days ago. It’s like the old gang coming together for a reunion.
